Description André drew on his talents as a filmmaker to produce this thought-provoking documentary about his experience at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia. His family believed elite education was André’s way up and out. But at what price? Yes, the exorbitant tuition was covered, but this new world cost him and his family much more than anyone could have anticipated.

The Prep School Negro revisits the events of André’s adolescence, and it explores the experiences of present-day prep school students to see how much really has changed inside the ivory tower. What he discovers along the way is the poignant and unapologetic truth about who really pays the consequences for yesterday’s accelerated desegregation and today’s racial naiveté. The viewing is particularly timely as foundations weigh once more how to best ensure greater diversity within their own ranks.

Following the screening, André will lead a discussion about the issues raised in The Prep School Negro. Please join us for what promises to be a very exciting Spring LAFF event moderated by Inca A. Mohamed.
