Invitation to panel forum, “NYU’s Kalman Silvert: Engaging Latin America, Building Democracy”

Friday, September 16, 5:30 – 7:00 PM.

From 1967 until 1976, Kalman Silvert served as the Ford Foundation’s Senior Social Science Program Advisor for Latin America. A political scientist and (simultaneously) a professor at New York University, Silvert did much to shape both modern studies of the Western Hemisphere and the Ford Foundation’s catalytic role in the region. On September 16 from 5:30 until 7:00, NYU’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies will celebrate Kal Silvert’s diverse contributions with a lively panel forum. The event, to which LAFF members are very cordially invited, will welcome a new book, Kalman Silvert: Engaging Latin America, Building Democracy. Four contributors to the volume will speak: Abraham Lowenthal (a colleague of Silvert at Ford), Jorge Balán, Christopher Mitchell and Martin Weinstein.

Date and time: Friday, September 16, 2016, 5:30 PM. Location: NYU’s King Juan Carlos of Spain Center, 53 Washington Square South in Manhattan. The event is free and requires personal ID but no RSVP; a reception will precede the panel, beginning at 4:30 PM.
